Can't get Enough

Autumn - I just can't get enough of it. If I could I would go out every day to just absorb this autumn, the bright blue sky, the red and yellow leaves of the Cape vineyards and the trees, the windless days. This amazing season will last for another month or so before the winter weather sets in. Cape Town in winter, for me, is also a wonderful experience - rain, rain and more rain! The green season as it is known. Not everybody likes that, but like to camp out in the kitchen in front of the old cole stove with coffee or hot chocolate and pancakes, nice music and just chat away the weekends.

But back to autumn - I took this amazing pic on Sunday!

Autumn in the Cape

Whether you are a visitor from the other side of the planet, or from Mars, or just a local from Cape Town, you should get out there and enjoy this beautiful piece of the country. It is autumn in the Cape, leaves are turning red, yellow and orange; the weather is perfect. There are the few rainy days in between, but that is good, because everything gets washed clean. Everything, except for the autumn leaves are turning bright green. I had the privilege to visit the beautiful town of Franschhoek on Sunday.

We drove up the Franschhoek mountain pass with its spectacular views, had picnic for lunch on the highest point. We took photos, waved at the people passing us in the vintage cars and just enjoyed the fresh air and panoramic views.

We then drove to student town of Stellenbosch where we took the Jonkershoek road to where it ends. There we had coffee and scones at the restaurant and played a game of cards under the trees. What a joy! The Jonkershoek drive is a must in autumn. Make sure you don't miss it!

The World's Most Scenic Route - Chapmans Peak

The work on Chapmans Peak Drive began in 1915 and it was formally opened in 1922. In January 2000 it had to be closed due to rock falls, and so began one of the most innovative road engineering projects in South Africa. Chapmans Peak was reopened as a toll road in 2003. Unfortuanately the road had to be closed again shortly after that, but it is still possible to drive approximately 4km in to the highest point.
That is exactly what we did not long ago. There are many lookout points from where the spectacular natural beauty of this piece of coast can be enjoyed. You can enjoy a picnic basket while looking out over Hout Bay.
When visiting Cape Town this is certainly one of the many places you just don't want to miss.

If you stay in my bachelor's flat in Bellville, it is only 40 minutes away from this beautiful drive.

Chrismar Self-Catering Cottage - Directions

It is said that "All roads lead to Rome"! The same can almost be said of our very stylishly decorated self-catering cottage that is set in a beautiful and peaceful garden. I have drawn up this map, which in my humble opinion might be the easiest even for foreign visitors. The are other shorter routes, but depending on the time of day, they might have more traffic. This map shows the route from Cape Town International Airport, but is also useful from any other place as long as you can take the N1 highway.
